"If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will -- to your surprise -- miss them profoundly."

Lily's "Arts n' Crafts" Birthday Party

This year Lily requested an Arts n' Crafts party! It came as no surprise to me as she LOVES doing crafts and artsy stuff and often tells me she wants to be an artist when she grows up. "...and a spy, AND a mom!" is what she usually says. Haha.

I made this art palette cake for the party. Ben came up with the idea for the paintbrush which is licorice and string licorice for the bristles. Ben kept telling me he loved the cake and thought it was, "so simple yet so awesome." That made me feel pretty good!

Here is a shot of her the night before with the traditional birthday balloon:

...and the next morning, on her REAL birthday:

She is so happy to be 7! She loved that her party got to be on her real birthday this year. She kept saying that this was the best day of her life.

I sent these mini cupcakes to school with her to share with her class. She said the class sang to her twice and that it was another older girls' birthday that day too. An older girl on her bus. It's always fun to find out you share a birthday with someone!

Here is a picture of all the girls hard at work on their crafts. We painted and made bunny cans, coffee filter flowers, hand print paper lilies, and decorated picture frames. Messy and fun!

Izzy helped Olivia and Chloe a lot with theirs at the smaller table. It was a big help to us!

Cake time! Take a big breath Lily...

...and blow all the candles out!

Present time!

The BIG gift from us, an iPod touch!

So here is the story of the iPod...we bought her a used DSi online for Christmas (that was still in really great shape) that she had asked for and really wanted. It was only $80 and came with 6 games, a pink case, the DSi was all pink...we thought we did so well and she was going to love it. Well, she never, ever played with it! She always wanted to play with Izzy's iPod, or my or Ben's iPhone. So we actually sold it all, online again, for $100, and used that $100 to buy a used (but still in good shape) iPod touch for $110. She still hasn't even asked about her DSi. She doesn't even notice it is gone. She is loving her iPod.

We also splurged and got her a "bubble sweater," which she LOVES:

It was a fun party and a great birthday for Lily! We can hardly believe she is already 7! Happy birthday Lily, we love you!

Here are the invitations that I made...I blacked out all of our personal info for the blog! Lily had fun with these!
