"If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will -- to your surprise -- miss them profoundly."

Chloe's Olympic Birthday Party

With the 2014 Winter Olympics just around the corner, Chloe decided to have an Olympic Birthday Party this year!  It was great fun!

Having fun before with balloons

The invitations we sent out:

The girls had so much drawing the Olympic rings on the goody bags and filling them.  I am LOVING having older girls who can do stuff like this for me!  And during the party they were SO helpful as well.  They assisted the kids with crafts, cake, everything.  They helped Chloe and Olivia do these bags up as well.

Here are the "torch" cupcakes I made:

We had some extra cupcakes and the girls helped ice them and put Froot Loops on as the Olympic Rings.  We substituted the purple ones for black:

And then the normal cake too.  There was so much cake!

Chloe happy with the results

One of the party favors were of course, Gold Medals!  I found these GIANT chocolate toonies to use, which made them so easy to make.

Trying them on for size...

We started out making a couple crafts--their own Olympic Torch complete with tissue paper for the flame, and paper plate Victor Crowns.  The kids all had fun decorating them!

We then had each of the kids pick a country.  It was fun to see all the different flags and talk about what flag belonged to what country:

Chloe picked Germany! Beckam got Canada and felt like the luckiest kid in the world for picking our home country! Olivia got Sweden, and kept calling it the "sweet country," haha!  Lily got the Czech Republic and kept calling it Chuck Republic.  Izzy got Japan.  Saphina got Spain, Braxton got Russia.  It was fun for the kids to see how the Russia and France flags were so similar, and how Sweden, Finland, and Denmark were similar too.

I had them all put their flag in one of the cupcakes, and when it came to cake time they all did a great job remembering which one was theirs.

And then the games began! We played Glow in the Dark Bowling (glow sticks in bottles of water with the lights off) The photo with the flash didn't turn out that great, but the kids had fun with it.

Then the kids did a Skittle Relay race, each team racing to fill their bowl with Skittles using only a spoon:

Next up was seeing who could put the most rigatoni noodles on the spaghetti noodle they were holding in their mouths in 60 seconds:

No hands allowed!

Next another relay race, but this time with a balloon between the knees! Those balloons were actually quite big and so it was really, really funny to see the kids waddling back and forth:

Lily discovered it was easier to hop!

Cake time!

Presents!  We played Spin the bottle to see whose gift to open next:

Chloe was so excited to open her gift from us first....her very own iPod!  She has been wishing and begging for one for a few years now.  We found one used on Kijiji for only $80, and then Olivia helped me pick out a case for her.  She picked the elephant one, which Chloe loves!

More gifts...Chloe was so happy with all the wonderful gifts from her generous friends:

She was so excited with this one she stood up and threw it up into the air!  I made her do it again so I could take a picture, haha

Closing ceremony time!  I had all of us sing "O Canada" while I gave each child their well deserved gold medal.  It was a pleasant touch!

The kids loved them and couldn't believe they were actually chocolate, and how BIG they were!  About the size of some of their heads!

Singing along to O Canada.  I was quite impressed so many of them knew the song so well!

Ben had them all pretend to bite into it, like they do with real gold medals

And kiss them!
It was a fun party!  And now for her REAL birthday tomorrow.  Here she is with the traditional balloon set out for her to wake up to!

Happy Birthday our dear sweet Chloe!  We love you so very much!
