"If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will -- to your surprise -- miss them profoundly."

Back to School 2014

So I am catching up from months of not blogging!  We were sad to see summer end, but the first day of school is always so exciting! The girls so far are having a great time with school.  They each have at least one friend from their church class in their school class, and several friends from last year.  But since this first day, they have each made some other really good friends.  They all are happy with their teachers too.

breakfast of champions

Welcome to grades 6, 4, 2, and Kindergarten!  This is the first year they are all in the same school and they will get to stay together in this school for the next FOUR years.  We feel so blessed and lucky for it.

Getting ready to ride bikes.  On the first day we use the bike trailer to carry all of their supplies, they have so much.  Too much to carry while riding a bike!

And here is Olivia at pick up time!  She had a great first day and LOVES school

We could spot Izzy with her BYE shirt at lunch when we picked up Olivia

Hugs from sister!

And riding home for lunch!  I took this while riding my bike!

We got to go to a Meet the Teacher night and see their classrooms

Big class!  She is loving it though and has an amazing teacher.

Her name printed in a perfect mirror image haha.  She is really good at printing it properly now.

I love her story so much, especially the last line.. "On the way back I threw up, my dad got ginger ale for me."

She LOVES that she has her OWN locker this year.

We always get the magnet style school photos.  This year we put ALL of them from present and past years on the fridge.  It is fun to see how they have all grown and changed over the years.

Chloe's class had a little Magnet Presentation one day.  I was super impressed with all the toys and games the kids made with their magnets.  These are some imaginative children here.

Izzy had a big presentation on trees and forests.  Here she is with her group of all boys.  She often tells me how there are only 7 girls in her class and 21 boys.  So when she is placed in groups, she is often with only boys.  She works well with them though, and their presentation was great.

With the school year starting, so do all of the extracurricular activities!  You can see my previous post for a little video I made of some of the things they do.

Olivia started a ballet/tap/jazz class and gets to go with her BFF Vienna, who goes to a different school this year.  It is nice for them to see each other there at least.

Lots of stairs up to the studio

Chloe has started a rhythmic gymnastics class.  It is the one place she can whip her arms around and do as many cartwheels as she pleases.  She was NOT interested in doing basketball this year, which really, is more than fine by me.  We don't want to make them too busy.

Super bendy and flexible

Izzy and Lily are both in basketball again this year.  They are loving it.  Ben is coaching Lily's team.  My cousin's daughter, Daisy Palmer is on Isabelle's team this year.  It keeps us busy every Sat with their games, but so far, only once have both of their games been at the same time in different places.  Usually we can manage to make it to both.

Long legged Lily

Izzy on a break away!

Izzy and Lily have also started a Broadway Kids class this year.  It is a musical theater group.  They are in the older class for kids grades 4-6.  This year they are doing Mary Poppins.  Lily was cast as a 3 part person and plays a maid, and two other extra roles I can't remember right now.  Isabelle was cast as Mary Poppins! There are only 2 kids who are in grade 6 and so the teacher said she wanted to give them the leading roles since they are the oldest and won't be in the group next year.  She has a couple of solo parts, but for the most part all of the children participate in singing and dancing and acting.  The girls have so much fun going each and every week and seeing their friends.  I can't wait to see the final production in May!  Until then I get to hear a lot of "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!" and "Let's Go Fly A Kite!" and all the other songs.  Fun times.

Izzy, Lily, and Chloe are all in piano as well.  They are progressing well.  This is the year that Isabelle starts the exams for the Royal Conservatory.  We are blessed to have found a great teacher who actually comes to our home to teach them.  And she still has her fantastic prices.

And then of course there is Activity Days for Izzy and Lily, and in Feb, Chloe too!  They LOVE going to Activity Days.  They have fantastic leaders, and they love to see their friends there too.  I am glad they enjoy church activities and have good friends at church.

Ben's new work is going well.  He has had to travel a bit for this new job.  A couple of times he has had to go up to northern Alberta for a week at a time.  He works for La Capitale insurance selling disability and critical illness insurance to trade workers and farmers mostly.  He will eventually sell life insurance and do investments too.  He is really busy getting it going, but he feels like this is the right job for him and for our family, especially long term.

And what am I up to?  Running the girls around to all of these activities!  No, I actually carpool with other moms for most of them, so that is not too bad.  I have some new found freedom every morning while all 4 girls are away at school.  I find the time goes so fast, but I do get a lot of things done.  I can also volunteer easily at the girls school during that time.  I am still the Primary President, nearing two years now, and LOVING it!  We are ready to have our Primary Presentation next Sunday. As the kids were practicing this past Sunday, I really felt the Spirit as their sweet little voices sang the songs.  It also really hit me just how big our primary is (about 70 active kids) and how lucky all of them are to have so many friends at church their age. Many of the age groups are so large we have 2 classes for them.  Lucky children!
