"If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will -- to your surprise -- miss them profoundly."

Happy 4th Birthday Olivia!!!!

I cannot begin to describe how quickly the last four years have gone by.  When I think of her as a little baby it seems like it was a lifetime ago, but at the same time she has changed and grown so much and I know it was only 4 years ago.  The really crazy part to me is to think that when she was a born, Lily who is now 8 was the same age as she is now!  Because Olivia is the baby of our family, she will always seem so much younger than when the other girls were her age.  That may not make any sense to people, but that is what goes through my mind.

I want to record some memories of Olivia the 4 year old:

-She is SO outgoing!!! An obvious extrovert!  She loves to be around people, especially other children, and loves to talk, talk, talk to them about anything and everything!  She loves to make friends at the playground who are total strangers.  She is not shy to share thoughts, feelings, or recent happenings in her life with everyone...cousins, neighbours, strangers at the store, friends at Primary, everyone!  She will proudly talk about anything from the wart on her toe to the little frog we found on our bike ride to how her sisters are her best friends.  She is SO excited to start Preschool in the fall.  She will go with a couple of friends from church and so that will make it all the better.

loves to be with her sisters

Lots of bike rides in the alley

-Pink is her favorite color, "but sometimes it's green."

-She loves to learn.  She loves to learn to print especially.  She once copied Izzy and Lily's nameplate puzzles almost perfectly!  I was so proud even if it was on Lily's dresser.  Shortly after her third birthday, Izzy taught her how to print her own name, and she practices it all the time!

-She loves to SING.  For the past week after her birthday I have heard her randomly sing all the Happy Birthday songs she knows, the church ones and the traditional one.  She loves to sing Primary songs too.  Lately she loves to sing the duet of "A Child's Prayer."  The part that says, "Pray.....He is there, Speak....He is listening," she sings over and over.  It is so sweet to hear her little voice.

She always finds little "treaures" at the beach.  She has found necklaces, teacups, toys, and here she is with a Pirate Patch she found.

-She has said she wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Loves all things beautiful

-She loves to help me with all the household chores, but doing laundry is her favorite.  She loves to help load the clothes, pour in the soap, and press the buttons.  Whenever she sees me go in the laundry room she stops what she is doing to come help!  She loves to windex the mirrors in the bathroom too, and even wipe down the toilet.

loves rides and fun

having fun in the trailer on family bike rides

-She loves stuffed animals.  Her current favorite is Surf the girl dolphin.  She also really loves little glass figurines.  She loves to take special care of them.  To Isabelle's dismay, she loves to go and play with Isabelle's little glass figurines too.  (Hence the reasoning for Izzy buying Olivia a glass puppy for her birthday.)

Bobskating in the winter

Passed her swimming lessons

-Her favorite show is Mickey Mouse.

-She is a major girly girl.  She loves make-up, lip gloss, doing her hair, putting in bows and barettes, and wearing frilly clothes (even if they don't match!) She will often ask me to brush her hair, "so it can look nice," which is a first for our kids!  They usually hate getting their hair brushed.  She loves to get her nails painted, and often asks if she can wear real makeup.  Grandma Gwenn actually put a little eye shadow and eye liner on her for fun at her sleepover with her.  She loved it!  She loves skirts, the poofier the better.  And she is so incredibly happy with her latest accessories, her new earrings!  She was so beyond happy and excited to get her ears pierced, it was a dream come true for her.

loves all things shiny even too small build-a-bear shoes

-That leads me to my next point, she is one tough little girl!  She didn't flinch, wimper or even grimace at all when she got her ears pierced.  She proudly climbed onto the chair, let the lady do it and then loudly proclaimed, "That didn't hurt one bit!"  It was the same thing at the dentist. My other kids were a little scared at their first appointment, so I thought, ok I'll go back with her while she is getting her cleaning in case she needs me to encourage her or give her a hug or something.  She was totally fine the entire time and even seemed to enjoy it.  She told me later that the polish and fluoride they used were "gross and disgusting" but you would never have guessed that by the way she just laid there and let the hygienists do their work.  She even chose the cherry and bubblegum flavor, haha.

She loves her new earrings

-Her favorite food is Caesar salad.

Loves to goof around

-She loves and adores babies, and really, always has.  She loves to be extra gentle and loving with them.  She loves to play baby dolls and house too.  When Meila was here for a week, she loved it, although it took time for her to warm up to the idea that she was no longer the baby in the house.  She didn't like having Meila sit in the "baby part" of the stroller that we hadn't used in months, haha.  But she eventually got over that, and loved to help feed her, change her, and play with her.

Carefree and happy girl here she is "flying" on the kayak at the lake.  She picked the orange one.
